KraftMaid Product Labels
Client: KraftMaid Cabinetry
This product data label was used for labeling sample cabinet doors in the Design Studio store display. The production challenge here was to produce about 40 labels, incorporating almost 300 line art illustrations. The art was supplied as PDFs and required adjustments to the color and line weight in each image.
Adobe Illustrator scripting was used to process the art in advance of the layout. The images tended to look very similar, had human-hostile file names, and yet had to be placed in a specific arrangement on each label. Rather than manually place and position each one, I worked with programmer Ryan Sexton to produce XML data from the client’s text and image list, and created InDesign templates to let me flow in the text and images in one step.
While the up-front template work did take some time, it eliminated a great deal of mind-numbing proofing on the part of both me and the client, as our testing gave us confidence that the correct arrangement of products in the original data would be preserved.
